So one of my new Zoas is kind of "puking" out a long black thread just under an inch long. I've just recently purchased my very fiest corals, softies and LPS so I admit I have a lot to learn. Pics included, thanks for any info.

1 of 2 things:

expelling waste which would be fine
expelling zooxanthellae is a stress response and not a good thing.

Just keep things stable and leave it alone, and see how it reacts.
I've had it about a week and have no fed any of the corals, so maybe waste from broadcast feeding where I got it from?
If it's expulsion, this would indicate perhaps my lighting is too high? The spot it's in on the rack is around 80-100 PAR.

I'll leave things be assuming it's not going to die in the next week (hopefully it won't die that fast?) and just observe.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
