Zoa Spotlight: Fruit Loops!

This month’s zoa spotlight will feature the “Fruit loops” zoanthid. These tiny zoas are in almost everyone’s top 10 most wanted zoas list. They are also in most people’s top ten want, but can’t have (because they are notorious for melting away) list. I will shed some light on a common misconception often attached to these beauties to give you a better understanding of placement and flow so you can be more successful with them in the future.

fast grower for me, have them in high light low flow however they only grow on the side of the plug and not on the top so I think they appreciate medium to low light.

I have mine on the sandbed and on the fragrack (up high) and the seem to do well in both locations. The mother colony does occasionally stay closed for a day or two.

Probably my favorite zoa Ive owned. I had a colony at one time that I kept on the sand but as my tank went more SPS the fruitloops didn't do so well anymore.

The smaller ones are the original fruit loops that came on the scene many many years ago.

These larger ones get orange speckles in the center and are not true fruit loops. Have seen them called flaming fruit loops and have seen them a lot in the last year coming in by the rock full

One of my favorites as well. I have a frag that started as 4 and is now around 20 in just a couple months. I have it sitting at the top of my tank in medium flow. Seems pretty happy, even with the algae problem I've had going on around it.
