The last couple of days, my zoanthids have been split between being inverted looking like in this picture or not opening at all.

Anemones, inverts, and fish are all still happy. Before this issue the zoas were growing like crazy.

I did a water change yesterday hoping it would resolve everything but the issue still persists. Any ideas of what’s going on?

This is my experience with every zoa I keep lol. They do this until they slowly die. I've kept hard to keep corals like acros and torches for years too. Potentially it's a nutrient thing? I know that zoas really like dirty water.

I have a protein skimmer running that I could turn off for the time being to see what happens.

I put some red macro algae in my display that’s been growing like crazy so maybe that is taking up all the nutrients.

I could also try spot feeding them

Thank you all for your responses

Update:

I’ve been feeding more heavily the last couple of days and turned the skimmer off and the zoas were opening up today.

I guess I will just have to find a balance to keep the nitrates just high enough

Mine have done that for a few days at a time as well. Everything else in the tank was fine, I just let it roll. They came back around with no issues.

Hopefully it was just random since they are opening back up.

You can try to spot feed them as well now.
