Hi everyone, I 've been watching my orange zoa for the last few days and it seems that the individual polyps are moving to the edge of the plug and getting off leaving just a nearly blank disc. Is this normal? Do my corals hate me? It's a rubbish telephone photo but the plug is touching the white shell.

Zoas do move. Could be that they like the flow or light better than where the plug is. As long as they are open I wouldn't worry about it

Some of mine do it and it seems like it's the ones that grow faster that do it. I believe I've read that it's a good thing, but I don't know why.

Once they are gone from the plug, I can't see them. Is there a chance that each one could set up a colony somewhere else on the reef?

We just noticed that yesterday. I knew when I purchased several Zoe‘s at once at the LFS, they were all in the center or thereabouts. Now everyone is pushed to the edge, in a different direction. No matter which coral it is and where it’s placed in the tank

Thanks for the very interesting replies. Maybe they'll hook up with the Xenia which went walkabout a couple of weeks ago!!!
