Unfortunately that is the typical case...pics online are taken under heavy blue light and even modified to enhance the colors sometimes.
What kind of zoas did you buy?

That's one more reason why I say cartoon names are just to make money...
You'll have to join the blue LED team for the "pop", my dear.
Unfortunately most zoas aren't that fluorescent naturally.

I'm so sorry. That's how most dealers in the market are nowadays. I know it's sad!
I think you didn't get it...
They take a picture with the blue light to have those fluorescent pigments really bright.
If you don't do the same at home you won't see what they sold to you.
It's a matter of light reflection. The polyps aren't THAT colorful.
It is also true to some of the pictures you see here and in other forums from the members.
The people follow the dealer's line of making it look what they want... just for looks...

Well, another thing could be photoshop. That would deserve a return!

Grandis.

I'm very sorry!
I would contact them and tell them how you feel.
Who knows there was a mistake?
Good luck!

Sometimes they do take a while to "color up" and it also depends on several other variables such as your lighting versus what they were grown under, tank chemistry and feeding. I've had some nice surprises and also some disappointments. There's a learning curve with zoas/palys, I try not to spend too much on a frag unless I am sure of what I am buying, Hang in there, there are some really cool varieties out there.

What Mr. Grandis forgot to say also many of the pics are taken with a macro lens that show you a giant magnified version of the zoa with colors sometimes the eye can't see. Zoa do not look very bright under whites, halides or T5s. There's a few pics of blues and whites for comparison.

I just picked up a Current USA Orbit marine led and it makes all my corals pop real nice but only after the white t5's go off , only then do my corals look like they did at the LFS
