Hello everyone,

My Figured I would start a tank thread as my tank is on its way. This is my first reef tank so I will be posting pictures along the way and I'm sure having tons of questions

Equipment:

Tank : 24x22x22 Advanced Acrylic's
Sump : 20x18x15 Advanced Acrylic's
Light : Reef Radiance 120 Pro
Skimmer : Reef Octopus - DNWB 110 Recirc
Return : Syncra 1.5
Circulation : 1 MP10 ES (Will be getting one more once tank is cycled)
Heater : 150w Jager

I will be getting an Apex Controller in a couple of months. Building my own stand as we speak and have done some initial rockwork. The rockwork is only 8 inches tall at the highest point so I am not sure how much higher im going to take it but I do want it another 5 inches higher atleast. Those aluminum vents are going to be placed on the back of the stand today.

Thanks for checking it out,

Aaron

Sorry, pictures are from my iphone.

Nice, you can always keep the back open for ventilation. Its also helpful to make a panel for Apex accessories. Keep it up.

Thank you. There will be a cubbyhole for the apex and the electrical. Dont know if that will get done today but i'm hopeful. 2 days off a week is never enough.

They will be coated with paint. They will corrode anyway but they are cheap and easily replaceable.

New scape, It will give me a ton more room for coral and a lot more hiding places for fish plus hide my corner overflow a lot better. This one is about 15 inches at its tallest. I like the second scape better. What do you guys think? Dont mind all the zip ties.

Thanks,

Aaron

Christmas Time!

Well I got a couple of shipments in. Also painted the inside of the stand. The Skimmer is way bigger then I was thinking might be overkill for a 50G! lol. So I painted the inside of the stand with that infomercial stuff flex seal, not sure why but I figured I would give it a try. It is supposed to be waterproof but we will see.....has anyone tried this stuff? Should have pictures of the tank and sump later!

Thanks,

Aaron

Time for a rethink it looks like. I spent hours planning this scape out and now it just looks soooooooooooo tiny in this tank its unreal. I suppose I should have known when I only used half of the rock I ordered. I knew I didnt want a tank overwhelmed by rock but this may be a little sparse

Looks good...really like your tank dimensions and the sump is freaking awesome!
and yeah...maybe a few larger base pieces, but also remember that your sand will be an inch or so and will hide that much on the bottom of the rock structure...so....you may be able to build it up with the pieces you didn't care for IF you are doing sand...

Thanks. I will be having a sand bed. Gonna go for a inch and a half. Speaking of sand one of the bags of sand I got the water is brown. It is "live" sand but the other 2 bags I got are clean water. The 2 clean bags are a different type of sand then the dirty water one. I'm wondering if the sand is no longer good or should be fine?

Thanks,

Aaron

New scape, Just put some extra rocks under the originals I think I am going to glue some small rubble I have to the small right side formation just so it doesn't look so square. Lemme know what you think. I know its all ugly with the cement right now and I probably went overboard with it but in time should look ok better safe then sorry. Don't mind the guy in the reflection.

Thanks,

Aaron

Quick question. I have heard you are not supposed to have any DIRECT sun light but as you can see that window where it is sitting is its final resting place. I am thinking I can just get a few dark colored curtains. The direct light is only for about 1 1/2 hours in the morning and hardly any gets through the shades . Any ideas?

Thanks

What a bummer!

Well, Just a bit frustrated today and had to share this with some people that would understand. Opened up my skimmer today and started to put it together when I noticed that this part was not attached and well I think the picture tells the story. I dont need the skimmer to start cycling and what not but still.
