First tank nothing but a canister filter , water change about 10 or 15 percent every three weeks to a month, the nano just has a filter sock in back compartment , I place a small part of a bag of chemi pure blue in the canister, and back of nano

My bad , forgot it’s late and the mostly blues are on , can’t see how pretty it actually is cause all the softies are muted blueFirst tank nothing but a canister filter , water change about 10 or 15 percent every three weeks to a month, the nano just has a filter sock in back compartment , I place a small part of a bag of chemi pure blue in the canister, and back of nano
Like a cryptic zone! I been thinking of setting up a canister like that for that purpose. A cryptic area where sponges can just take overMy FX6's are full of LR rubble.....no issues with cleaning...once every 6 months, a quick rinse out
Takes a man of class to place a long tentacle where you did .. takes even more to prove that level of class and mines a 55 too hahaI used a Fluval FX4 canister filter, HOB skimmer, two power heads, and HOB refugium on my mixed reef 55 gallon for over a year with good growth all around.
My filter was always loaded with pods during cleanings and the canister had places to put carbon and GFO bags.
If you don’t keep it clean, it’s like recycling water through a trash can. But, as long as you stay on top of it, it’ll work fine.
Really cryptic , quiet feel to it . Looks really cool going with a light source that didn’t wrap around the whole tank . Makes ya think it’s a picture taken somewhere deep and darkMy 30 Gallon NPS Reef was filtered by just an Aquaclear 70 up until a few weeks ago when I upgraded to an Fx4. It did well for a few months but as I add more corals and more food goes in, it wasn't keeping up anymore. However I may repurpose it and make into in a HOB Fuge.
Pic from when it still had the HOB
Same here but I have 2 older magnum 350 canister filters that I have filled with ceramic bio balls. One runs thru my UV filter. them along with an HOB skimmer, and an HOB Marineland 400 bio wheel filter. All on a 90 gallon mixed reefMy FX6's are full of LR rubble.....no issues with cleaning...once every 6 months, a quick rinse out
A lot definitely do but I think more people have a sump or AIO tank. I would argue that a HOB in the saltwater aquarium hobby is usually someone’s first tank or a budget build and then many people upgrade. I have a HOB tank it’s not a reef tank though. It’s home to this little buddy!
I would have to disagree with that thought......what constitutes a "reef" tank.....thats marketing hyperbole....this is now my 20th or so tank and I chose to run canisters as I dont want 1) noise 2) any chance of a flood 3) easy maintenance...I have a 120G with built in overflows which I disabled.....A lot definitely do but I think more people have a sump or AIO tank. Amen!Following. Good to see some other “old time” reefers out there.
Actually Ayden, I started in this hobby the day it started. I think it was on a Tuesday so my methods were the only way. Then some Idiot invented the computer and internet and everything is backwards so all the stuff people do now is the exception.Paul you are an exception to almost everything in this hobby lol!
