Even if it finds a spot and stays put, there's a ginormous chance it'll end up moving again. Whether it be 3days from now or a year, some nems just like to move.

Ok. Well, ours was happy for a while but now has squeezed itself into a crack in a rock - I'm not sure it can even get back out and I see no way to get to it. Any ideas/advice? Has anyone seen this before?

Over the years I've observed Nems moving for 3 primary reasons. I'll list them in order from most to least significant.

1. Water parameters.... >'ed NO3 & PO4.
2. Light
3. Flow

Not much experience but
I've had my nem a year now
I did lots and lots of reading
To My understanding and like
@Reefahholic says
Water, light flow, plays big role
I also know that nems need time alone
Sometimes they hide for some time
But of course everyone has different opinions.
I would also do some test just to make sure.
In fact my nem just split feew weeks ago and it's doing great!

And once they find a place they're really happy at, they'll split and then you'll have one or two babies running around your tank... I finally gave up once I decided to go with some sps and sold all 9 that my 1 turned into...

He will be able to get out without issues. No worries. IMO I think he's looking irritated. I would do a 20% water change. Then wait 2 days and do another.

If you don't have a Hanna ULR, I would get one.

Can you test ur No3 and Po4 and report ur results here. Be honest and I can help you.

Do this before the water changes, and let me know. I need a baseline.

Thank you so much for the advice. I will do the tests this evening and report back. I have Red Sea test kits.
It is great to hear everyone's stories. This is such an amazing hobby.

One more factor - it looks like there is some sponge on the rock right where the anemone is - could that also irritate the anemone?

Just wanted to thank everyone who offered help and advice. The anemone died unfortunately- not sure why - everything else in the tank seemed fine but by the time I went to check on it the anemone had started to dissolve. I removed it immediately and ran some carbon in the sump. This seems to have stressed the other tank residents.

I'm sorry to hear that [emoji120][emoji17] we try to solve the problem

Hi All,

Our BTA has been on the move for about a month now. It may rest for a few days in one spot but then moves again. It is causing some stress for the corals it comes near.

Any suggestions on how to encourage it to settle down?

It is currently on the floor of the tank (90 gallon) but spent many months near to top before it began its wandering.

Has anyone else encountered this behavior? Is there something we are doing wrong?
They like crevices for their foot. I have one that goes in a cave at night and comes out for light in the day. It never strays away from the cave. ~Shahin Ruyani

Careful hammer strike. If it can't get light it will die.
