I had my smallest clown host first and the others then took it. I have 2 rbta though so the smaller one just moved on to the next house. Now they all share and go back and forth.

That's not necessarily true. Sometimes when clowns are younger one has to be/remain dominant over the other so it'll stay a male and the dominant one can turn female. Maybe your bigger clown hasn't made the change yet?
I know my biggest clown can be a ***** sometimes. Currently it's hosting my Tyree neon green toadstool that's right next to one of my Rbta. But it still goes around and kicks my other clowns out of the nems, just to show who's the Boss! If one hasn't killed the other yet then they'll probably pair up eventually.
