so the theroy is this by turning the dos pump slider to on instead of auto. the apex ignored my wizard coded dosing of 55mls over 12hrs and defaulted to 200ml doses every 10mins ? why would it do that?

if I had selected auto instead of on this wouldn't have happened?

My theory is that if you accidentally turned the slider to on it would run at a constant rate of 25ml/min then after running for 8 minutes it automatically paused because from what I’ve read it can’t/won’t run continuously, and from reading online 8 minutes seems to be the time frame where it will turn itself off. What I can’t find is how long it stops the dos head from running before it lets it run again.
If my theory is right (and I’m not saying that it is) then the only way to prevent it is to be very cautious not to set the slider to on. When the slider is switched to on it should ignore all programming.

I always thought the dos was rated for continuous use but from what I’ve read it’s not.
Hopefully someone more experience than me can chime in with what happens when switched to on.

Apparently from reading a Suncrestreef article you can set the slider to auto and then remove the tile from the dashboard so that you cant accidentally set it wrong.

ok last question... clearly the on vs auto issue was the cause...Thanks to you all for the imput..

i turned on my ca pump and sure enough it ran twice and dumped 200 mls into the tank. dont freak! my ca is under 300 right now so i need to get it back up....

WILL this line of code # 3 stop the accidentail fat finger slide from happening again.

It may not stop your fat finger slides, but it should stop the dos if your pH gets over 8.6

Check your Mg once you get back up close to your target Ca. Odds are you lost 10-15% of that too.

I don’t think there is any programming that can prevent it. Essentially when the slider is moved to “on” it ignores all programming.

Just curious when you turned the calcium slider to on did it dispense 200ml and then stop, if so then it would probably do the same thing and dose another 200ml a little while later.

yes it did.. this feature of ----

the on ignoring programing and dosing a default of 200ml every 10-30 mins until turned off...

what purpose does this serve in the hobby? anyone have a need to dose 200 mls of anything every 10-30 mins. 24 7. i'll ask before i call this feature stupid.never would have thought about that if my dumb *** had not left it in the on postion

I can’t see any practical reason for it to function the way it does. If the slider moving to the on position caused the doser to continuously run at a user selectable rate then I could see a point. But it forcing a set 25ml/minute rate and then pausing every 8 minutes seems worthless.

They should have some way of locking out the on function for these tiles other than the cover.
I’ve seen to many posts where someone has programmed their dos to come on with a trident reading and caused problems in their tank. Apex should at least give a warning to anyone turning a dos to the on position.
