Hi all,

I have one of my Bristle tooth tangs that looks to have velvet, I have moved it to my smaller tank that only has some clear shimp and snails. I am going to start a fresh water dip for it as that's all i have access to at the moment.

Do I need to dose my large main tank (where it came from) as the others aren't showing any signs yet, also due to my aqua scape it would be near impossible to catch all my fish to give them dips, is there any solution I can does my tank with?

Stocking is tangs, gobys, normal clean up crew, crabs, eel, 2 nems and 2 feather duster.

No coral at all.

It have a sump also as filtration.

Do you have a UV sterilizer you can deploy in the main tank to help destroy the disease in the water column?
UV's won't have any impact on the parasites that reside on the fish. UV can help reduce the number of parasites but only effective on what passes through the UV with proper flow and contact time with the bulb. Usually 1.5-2 x turnover of aquarium volume per hour.

As others mentioned, you would need to place fish in QT at therapeutic copper levels. Nothing can be implored in display to treat at this point. The only exception and potentially treating the display with Hydrogen Peroxide but there are many variables with this approach.

Apologies I didn't mean to suggest UV as a key treatment protocol. I had just assumed it'd be good to use as a means to helping reduce continued spread if OP had it available to them.

Velvet causes rapid breathing in most/all fish, hanging in water current and not eating. Death follows pretty rapidly. If the fish are eating and not breathing fast and if you can see spots, it is ich.

He are the best videos I can get, it has been eating in my main tank before I moved to my small Marco tank, he is also super active.

I dont have a uv in my main display but my macro tank is currently running 2x the recommended amount.

From what I can see it looks to be alot a small white spots that's it, similar to ich I have seen on my tropical fish in the past

In answering your question - a freshwater dip is not that helpful for velvet.

What would be the best dip option for velvet, I could possibly try hydrogen peroxide
Are you certain its velvet? As @Jay Hemdal mentioned, rapid breathing, hiding from light, swimming into flow are common signs of velvet. If you see spots but breathing rate seems normal, you're likely dealing with ich or potentially something viral.

Are the fish still eating and acting normal otherwise?

Technically this is a reef safe medication but it won't eradicate velvet in your display. You will need to run the aquarium fish-less for minimum of 6 week at 81 degrees to starve out the parasite.

Hi I'm not 100% because I'm new to salt water tanks, it's breath quicker than usual but no crazy, it's not swimming in flow, it is hiding in a cave but will come out and swim around, from what I can see it's looking abit thin but it's has always been like that, I have also spotted him eating algae of the walls and rocks.
