They were always around but kinda in a corner of reef keeping due to them being extremely fickle to keep and be successful with.
A while back they were close to impossible…for whatever reason those and alves mownseem reasonably easy …
the new reds that have been appearing probably have boosted sales also I reckon

I tried and failed miserably with gonis for years, I just recently acquired one to see if my luck has changed. I figure since there are more aquacultured out there versus wild caught, they may of adapted better to reef tanks.

i cant think

I have been seeing all kinds of different crazy named goniopora. And at crazy prices sometimes. Is that the new hot coral? I just back in the hobby a few months ago and I was just wondering.
If I’m honest, Gonis, Torches and Hammers have always been around but they seem to be more popular. We just lost them during the great craze of SPS corals (which have now all been grown so even some of the rarer ones are almost everywhere).

There are some killer varieties that have come out in the last year or two

It used to be very hard to keep, and primarily a single color or maybe dual color, and now there are insane bright ones or multi color ones, and many are tank raised and do better

same here, I got these from Aqua SD about a year ago, I’d recommend them for Alves and Gonis quicker than a endorse for torches ;)
Anyway low risk especially if you catch one of thier numerous sales (pardon the blue lost my orange filter) image.jpg

Honestly I think they've come way down in price this last year. It was hard to find them for less than $50 a year ago now I see them in the $15-$20 range for some pretty bright ones.

There are definitely super bright glittering ones for high prices, but the low end of Goni's is quite cheap.

AquaSD is a fav for local ordering, they are a few hours south of me. I don't mind the 20$ shipping cost for their stuff, I've done good overall with them.

I’ve always liked Gonis since the start. And you can still find them for reasonable prices. Most of mine aren’t crazy color wise but that’s not always the biggest

Wow, I'm impressed.

What kind of parameters? More sterilized SPS numbers, or grimy like I keep my tanks at, lol.

We're talking like 20-40 nitrate, .08-.1 phosphate when I do test, lol.

Definitely not sterile. I have some SPS but most of my corals are lps. I really don’t chase numbers , but last time I checked nitrates 15-20, phosphate pretty low .02-.05. Alk 10.7, calcium 450, Mag 1470-1500.

Are they aggressive? Can they be put in a 20 gallon nuvo ?
Sure . I had several in my Nuvo 30l. Just keep them in a space to themselves. Also if you get the related Bernardpora keep them apart.

I like their ebay auctions. They are pretty upfront and honest. Their pictures are not doctored too awful much.
