Hey Matty! Taking pictures of corals can be a pain especially when the auto white balance changes the colors. Just a suggestion, try turning only the actinics on and then taking a pair of sunglasses and use them as a gel filter. You'll retain all the nice colors without sacrificing the image.
Also instead of using the convex lens on sunglasses, you can purchase gel filter from amazon for like $5 I think. You might have to play with actinic brightness and your camera brightness. I usually have to turn the brightness all the way down. Good luck. Beautiful coral selection, by the way!
Shoot for warming filters. Like reds, pinks, orange and brown. It helps cancel out the glowing actinic blue without filtering out the vibrant colors of the corals. I would get an assortment just because, A: i dont know what camera you're using. B: I dont know how bright your blues are and C: the outcome is always subjective, just like photography.
If your budget conscience, figure out which ones are best and if you need to cut some down, you can do that too.
You talking about that Hydnophora?
It is crazy looking. I was originally going to pass on it because of how mean they are but it looked so crazy that I ended up having to take it. I just have it isolated in it's own corner.
