Hello all,

I currently was gifted a 36 gal bowfront tank with stand. I do not have plumbing holes for a sump and I am too nervous to even attempt to create plumbing holes.

What equipment should I then lean towards for filtration/skimming, etc. HOB I would assume however, being new to this hobby, not sure at all what to purchase to make this a great and healthy aquarium. Heard just an HOB skimmer and some others say just an HOB filter.

Will be doing dry sand (maybe live sand and dry rock), live rock, and a few fish, possibly some inverts. Corrals will be in the far future.

Help would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day.

Hello! Congrats on the new tank? Do you have experience with freshwater tanks? You can run a fish and motile invert tank much the way you would a basic freshwater tank. You need a heater and I’d suggest a HOB filter like an AquaClear or Seachem Tidal. I think that may be a good start, but there’s lots of options depending on your budget and what you want to keep.

Good luck!
