Most of the people have the same basic reef tanks setup. The most successful reef tank is not only because the salt, light, skimmer, pump. etc...it also because the person know how to maintain that reef tank.
When testing for phosphates keep in mind that nuisance algae when bad enough can use up excess phosphates very fast. Little or no p04 will show up on a standard PO4 test kit, when actually there is too much p04 in the water column.
A colorimeter is a much more accurate way to test for phosphates.
