My local fish store sells these odd size/shaped "betta" aquariums (specifically looking at the "Betta 5"):

I am interested in setting up a nano or PICO tank but. . .

. . . I have 4 ideas in mind and I can't decide. . . so lets see what you guys think!!!

All choices will be bare bottom!

You should set up a Deepwater Pico reef, with things like sponges, sun coral, NPS gorgonians and some really interesting invert, also, an idea, instead of bare bottom why not some coarse gravel?
My fear with NPS corals is feeding and nutrient export in such a small, minimally or unfiltered, tank.

I just like BB better for aesthetic and cleaning purposes. . . that said, in a small tank that is a lot of extra biological filtration room. . .

I have always loved Sun Corals. This would be an awesome project!

It’s looking like a DIy AIO pico/nano. Bring it on!
Looks like it haha! If that ends up being the case I will have to figure out what I want to do for the AIO portion. I would like to directly mount the pump to the baffle wall, or maybe uses the oscillating pump nozzle somehow.

Yeah, but I kinda want to MAKE my own AIO. . . again. . .

Also, kinda want to go WAY smaller than that haha the tank in OP is only 2.5 gallons.

This is the 10 gallon AIO I "made":
