Had my weird 40 gallon (2X 20 gallon longs) above tanks sump AIO hybrid thing: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/moshjoshs-diy-20-gallon-aio-sump-w-unconventional-lighting.979076/

Wasn't happy with it and the direction it was going (or the time I was spending trying to remediate the situation). I tried a sort of "soft reset" with new scape and just ended up killing a bunch of previously healthy corals. . . was having dinos, algae, and on and on. . .

So I said NOPE.

Made my own AIO tank for my nems and clowns (algae blenny is in there too, but only until I have time to bring him back to the store). Keep in mind these picture are just after everything was added, so nothing is super happy ATM, but using cycled rock and media.

Oh, that light is just a temp, gonna order a Tune Blue in the next day or so. . .

Good start! Enjoy the process!

My new tank isn’t going to get wet for a while, but I’m enjoying researching and slowly accumulating equipment. Some things have changed in the 15 years since I had a tank.

Some more details:

10 gallon Aqueon tank
DIY AIO baffles made out of cutting boards
X2 3/4 bulkhead strainers for return
Pond medium/fine filter foam combo for mechanical filtration
Chemi Pure Blue Nano packets
Sera Siporax bio media
WAY oversized pump (what I had) with return jet and simple valve to slow the flow
Aqueon heater (some fancy “pro” heater)
Eshoppes float valve for top off
Jaboe wave maker

And now my new Kessil Tune Blue!!!

Think things are still acclimating to all the changes but will try to go slow and steady from here on out!

My “mostly nems” tank has turned into a “two unhappy nems with a bunch of frags and macros” tank. . .

Nems are pretty shriveled after all that phyto/bacterial bloom nonsense. Not counting them out yet but. . .

Tried to snap some better pictures but the heavy blues (not really that heavy in person but more than my other tank) get the pictures looking a little funky:

Kinda coming together. . . added a few corals I got on the cheap and a few accidental frags from my display. Some of the frags on tile aren't doing so great, think I need to mess with placement, though hard in this tiny tank haha

Did you end up loosing the nems?
They are still there. . . but they are shrunken and retracted.

Between the algae/bacteria bloom, massive water changes, dosing vibrant, I am not sure they will pull through. Things “seem” stable for now, hopefully if I keep it that way MAYBE they will come back!?!?

Good trouble: Have mushrooms ever become pests in your aquarium?
