Hi guys,
My torch coral has been a bit deflated the last month i would say. he used to look nice and poofy but not really anymore. took a photo from above and he looks like he’s got a gap in him? is he splitting or something ?? the photo where he looks good is from December. Another thing i should add is that i believe since adding a soft coral, he hasn’t been as happy? any thoughts??

ammonia, nitrite 0
nitrate 0-5
ph 8.2
need to get more testers i know

looks ok to me honestly but I might let that phosphate and nitrate ride up a lil… did you change the flow?

just anecdotal info but Torches IME can be touchy for a euphilid … I wouldn’t raise my alk too high or let nutrients like nitrate and phosphate get too low…

yeah i’m using a crappy API test so i’ll need to go into my LFS and get is tested. don’t have any fish at the moment in there so it’s hard to get nutrients up as well.

oh maybe run some carbon temporarily if you suspect chem warfare … which softies? some softies are nastier than others
I dunno, API gets a bad rap…sometimes deserved but I use them for ballpark stuff like nitrate and ammonia or cycling sponge filters, small tanks et et…..where you just need a general idea of what’s going on … but no I would not use API for day to day testing lol

i always have carbon going - to be honest idk what the species is- i’ll attach a photo. the soft coral has been growing a lot and seems to be doing well.
