currently most expensive is probably the live rock! The tank itself was surprisingly the most expensive equipment. But I’m only running a 15 gallon :)

Your thread also reminds me of a thread I started a couple of years ago that may be of interest to you:

Amazing, I definitely was also trying to keep costs down as much as possible. The equipment and things were not that much. But I ended up getting lots of coral so that has added up significantly. I haven’t added it all up but it’s probably around $2-$3k CAD all in.

My lighting was most expensive equipment
Same,,, low effort and budget tank here so:
My current lights were just over $400.
Pretty sure ALL other equipment combined, including tank/powerhead/heaters/etc, was less than that.
ALL livestock (fish/corals/inverts) also less than that ... but I tend to stay on the beginner/cheap end there.

I love Gonis and Euphyllia. Maybe too much

Most expensive would probably be my Hanna checkers lol, they add up to a pretty penny.
Are they worth it? I always want to get them but then look at the cost and go back to my fluval or red sea kits

Alkalinity - yes - super fast
Nitrate - yes - fixed decimal value quickly
Phosphate - yes - gives decimal value quickly
Calcium - not difficult, but many steps, requires deionized or distilled water
