Pinecone fish can be kept if you know what you're doing, sadly that isn't usually the case
I spoke to Eric at Tank Stop about Pinecone fish at length. A chiller is a necessity, as they prefer temp around 70. They cannot handle any light. Finally, they are predatory, yet picky. In other words, a tank set up just for them.

Hey everyone, whats some of the stranger or less kept fish/inverts you can think of? I love the weirder creatures, common and rare, so from (silly) conches to cuttlefish and epaulettes sharks what can we list?
flounder, Look downs, flashlight fish, dragonfish

I knew a guy: (Had to look it up)

The wonderpus octopus (Wunderpus photogenicus) is a rare species of cephalopod found in the tropical western Pacific. It was only recently described to science.

Just thought of another one.
This time an actual rarity.

Is called “Ecolania endophytophaga”.
Basically a Valonia eating Nidibranch.

Is it cooler then Thaumoctopus mimicus though because that is my dream octopus if it were doable which it might not be…

Can't say. It was amazing but when I looked into the octopus as a pet I found that they don't live long in the wild or in captivity. I have seen videos of the mimic, it has it's own kind of cool that is different than all the others.

Yeah it’s a ton of effort for at best a year or two… but hey if they did live longer they would have taken over the world by now and we’d be in the tanks :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I think the mimic would likely lead the pack, like Nemo and Dory.

Probably this, if anyone has a clue what this could be. Looks like eggs of some kind that came on TBS rock.

By the sounds of the clicking it’s close where a mantis currently resides.

Taken with an endoscope camera submerged into the live rock crevices.

Those are not the typical polpys viewed with an endoscope.

Neat photography, no clue. Hope it's benign.

All these reefers and we can't get enough valonia to start a breeding colony?

If it wasn’t as rare as it is, I guess we had them already breeding in the hobby a long time ago - much like Berghias for Aiptesia.

Someday it’ll hopefully hitchhike into someone’s reef and we’ll all benefit from its unique abilities.

Looks like cephalopod eggs - octopus or squid in this case. They should have a small, skinny string anchoring them to the rock.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
