When designing a stand for a tank, do you allow 1/2" or 1" of extra length and width?

For example, an aquarium might be considered a 72"L x "24"W tank, but actually measure out closer to ~ 72.5" x 24.5".

Would you make your 72.5" x 24.5" or 73" x 25"?

Go as big as you want. I prefer some space for setting stuff next to the tank

You don't need to go over but it should be 100% supported and on a leveling pad. I can't believe they sell stands that just support the edges. These manufacturers also manufacture tanks. Go figure...

Going bigger is really down to personal preference. For me I prefer it flush with tank edges or a decorative trim around the stand edges.

For rimmed tanks you just need to support around the trim. For rimless you need to fully support the bottom and most but not all require a foam mat between the stand and tank.

Personal preference, but weight of the tank needs to be over the support legs. Also height of the stand is your choice if your building your own . I designed my 40g breeder stand with wide support area around the edges on the top since I went with a throw back look. also went with a more modern 36 inch tall stand.
