it may not be a good way of going about it. yes, it could be done, sure why not but those filter do sit in the water about 6 in to a foot and if power went out i for see the main take draining way too much and you would have a flooded room. there are way easyer ways to go about an overflow, there are some cheap ones on the market as well as some nice DIY options. glass-holes is a nice option, eshopps overflow, or even just using PVC.

Do u mean pvc as just a u tube to hose, straight to the sump? wanted to keep my son's 20g as inexpensive as possible. Used the sump because i have an extra skimmer he can use.
