I am just curious as to how long members have been in the hobby. It seems as though there is a threshold where the average hobbyist gives up the hobby and I am intrigued to see if this is visible in the poll. Thank you all for voting.

I've been it it for 12 years straight. Not only have I had a system(s) all these years, I still have the original first piece I ever bought! Granted, They are only pinwheel green paly's. But still the none the less how many out there can say that.

I've been rockin' this saltwater thing only 7 or 8 months now, but I've had freshwater for around 10 years. I've had mostly cichlid's and community (boring but pretty) and my predator tank, I also take care of my uncles heavily planted 190g.

21 years, no breaks. I still have the live rock and hang on 'trickle filter' from 1991 running on my qt tank now. Just getting into the forums this year though... wow did it take me a long time to find out about these!

First got into the hobby back when undergravel filters, crushed coral, and weekly bleachings of dead coral was the rule of thumb. Got back out for a few years and back in about 12 years ago with my first reef - 55w power compacts were the rule of thumb back then - can't even seem to find those any more.

5 years packed with lessons and wonderful resources like this site. I actually drove my first reef tank from southern California to Oregon....fish in one cooler.....corals in another. Had tank running within 2 hours of arrival after 15 hour drive with my MOM......ugh was that a long day....lost nothing and gained an anemone outta the deal so no complaints

For those who are curious my nem split during travel....probably due to stress. Both my skunk cleaners did too....which tripped me out because I didn't even notice....just tossed all 4 in...wasn't for another day that I realized my "extra" cleaner shrimp were just shells....

What's sad is our stuff got moved up by movers...didn't arrive for 5 days followed by my wife. It was literally me...my mom....2 inflatable mattresses....and my tank.

Thnx.. My aquarium is like my pride an joy. I've had a lot of setbacks during this first year but things are finally starting to turn around. Hopefully I can pursue something in the marine bio major and who knows mebe have my own LFS one day. God knows we could use a few more here in la county lol
