Just starting my first sw tank, but have had fw tanks and fish on and off over the past 20 years although really started learning what I needed to do to have a healthy tank about a year ago.
have been keeping fish since 1961 and salt and corals since 1978
had flower pot corals breeding under sunlight and 150 outdoor spot lamps in 1985
seen the reef hobby grow from day one
Ive had freshwater tanks and ponds sense i was 8 and im 23 now. Always wanted saltwater but parents said no it was too expensive. But now i am doing it on my own and had a saltwater tank for a little over two years now
I started this hobby when I was born! Lol, but my dad was an angelfish breeder so I grew up having my own tanks. When I was 10, I started to get into salt water. I had to keep it simple because I didn't have the money for a big reef tank. Now I'm 25 and have been a sps addict for over 8 years. I hope in a few more years I'll have an aquarium big enough to enjoy from the inside!
Tried a 20 gallon in 1985,got frustrated and broke it down, was too young for the work required.Bought a 55gal in 1992,fish only.Stopped that one due to a fire.Went to a 20 gal in 2000,got so addicted that I have worked my way up to a 75 gal mixed tank. The upgrading is never done.I absolutely love it!Have the Bio classes from local high school come to check it out during the Ocean section.I get such a kick from sharing with an amazing group of young people. Each year, with the new students,I see so much excitement on their faces! It is truly priceless.
