Guys,
Regarding the Rebel XSI camera and lenses:

The Rebel XSI is available body only or with the Canon 18-55 lens. I am
looking for good macro pics of SPS corals and also want to be able to use the Rebel for everyday type photography. Am I better off getting the Rebel kit with the 18-55 lens included and buying the macro lens separately, or can I take everyday type pics with the XSI body and just the 100 macro lens?

Buying the XSI/18-55 lens kit only adds $60 onto the price compared to buying the body only.

I didn't know if the macro lens is only good for up close pics? Thanks.

i would get the lense for 60 bucks more...i don't think you'd be able to take pictures with the macro alone...unless you want only macro shots...

nah, yo can take great pics with a macro in any situation. the only problem is its a prime lens. So the zooming in and out is done via foot power.

I bought a camera today from B&H. I bought a Canon Rebel XSi with 18-55 mm lens and a Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens.

I wanted to thank everyone on R2R for the great information and help with my purchase decision. I was thinking of buying the Canon 50D, but decided the XSi was a good match for my needs. I'll be reading the tutorials here after I get my camera on Wednesday.
