wastewater

I just recently finished installing my RO buddie/ 4 stage RODI - I flushed the carbon, and membrane prior to use and everything is running well ( 0 TDS ) my only concern is the amount of waste water… I know that’s an odd thing to fuss about but hear me out… I recently replaced my old unit...

so I have recently purchased the ICECAP K1-50 protein skimmer and i’m very confused. I set everything up just as the videos have said but but the water waste dump slide valve does not open or close causing the skimmer to over flow with water… does anyone have any idea what’s wrong with it etc?
