Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
After opening it I use it for 2-3 weeks and then toss what is left. No mold, just a precaution as it’s close to use by date.
I think he meant how long before it molds once you add it to the worm container. Im guessing your worms eat it before this happens?

I wish I could give you some stomatella snails. I saw one when I first set up my tank. There are probably 40 or so out right now
Stomatellas are great, unfortunately they are also snack-packs for wrasses.

Ya that’s what I thought and I addressed it but then he said he meant in the fridge and that his gets moldy in 3-4 days. I don’t know why I even try, Mike is so annoying. 😉 Oh, don’t tell him I said that please, he’s very sensitive and his feelings get hurt easily.

What's anyone's thoughts on these?

I've never used one but the vast majority of reviews I've seen on it are positive. I think that in general Maxspect makes upper-mid level equipment at lower-mid level prices. Are you figuring on two of them? They are only rated to cover 12"x24". They are also only 65 watt units so only about 15% stronger than a Prime 16HD but probably fine for a softie tank. I would not get these if you are planning on any SPS in the future though (although with your trigger it is kind of a given you aren't).

Camden,

Just to be clear I'm not trying to dissuade you from a sump. They do have some real advantages but they won't cure an unbalanced tank. Besides Paul B.'s thread, by any chance have you been checking out Randy Holmes-Farley's thread?

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/randys-tank-and-learn-thread.1103636/
Randy is going step by step through his build and why he is making the decisions he is. Your tank goals are probably not the same as his but I think he does a nice job of compartmentalizing his decisions. He has a sump on his 120. If I remember right it is 4 44-gallon brute cans, each one with a specific purpose.

I like sumps and they have the advantage that, done right, you can set up specific 'zones' that don't necessarily play nicely together or that cannot coexist in the confines of a small tank.

If I remember right Matt (@Fish Styx) has a cryptic zone in his sump. You need a very large tank to pull that off in a display.

What I don't like about sumps is that they encourage equipment creep and are often filled with nearly useless equipment that is only masking the issues in the tank.

I saw this after I checked out at my grocery store. Definitely going to grab some next time. I’ll set it in the beer fridge in the garage next to my Browns Bud Light. I’ll have my two favorite football teams in there. The fridge will then be neutral. A team that knows how to win games and one that is clueless.

No matter how bad the browns do I will always be a fan. Watching Jim Brown when I was a younger will always be with me, the fight by the city to stick it to Modell when he pirated the team out of town great stuff. Cleveland is a football city. I wish them the best. Ohio State? you mean THE Ohio State, what more needs to be said.

Good to hear, one day at a time. I don’t know what you do for a horse with a strain, tell him to rest it?
Luckily Leo is pretty lazy when he's in the pasture and doesn't run around other than when he sees us coming and I don't think he will try to do that as much as he's hurting.
