I'm having a kind of a bleak reefing day and almost ranted here but thought better of it and ranted in my own tank thread instead.

TLDR;

I agree with the questions Luis posed the other day (maybe yesterday?) about coral prices, and other things.

It does seem ridiculous, but at least in my area I have found ways to make it a lot more reasonable. The closest LFS wants $100-200 minimum for boring/simple LPS like Duncans, Frogspawn, & Hammers per head and they want close to $250-750 for a head of torches. Its simply insane. The crazy part is if I drive 35-50 minutes away north to Fort Myers these is a shop that sells corals for $50-60 for Duncan's & Hammers and $80-150+ for Torches which is more reasonable but still its not great.

Now the real key money savior for me has been Facebook marketplace and their "fake" coral listings. I got a two headed cotton candy torch for $70 from a local reefer a while back. Also today I got a nice Branching Frogspawn, one Aussie Duncan, 15 small cerith snails, & a cleaner shrimp for $100 from another reefer. They actually sell so much corals that they order inverts online and sell it locally (lol). If I got it from my LFS it would likely cost $300 for the same items.

I honestly have no interest in buying corals from my LFS anymore and yesterday I went there and their TDS in their RODI water was 15 lol. (The guy was talking to me about how I use my own RODI system and was curious what their TDS was in the water as I said mine is always 0 and he checked and it was 15! lol Just crazy
