You guys should check out Indian Shores/Redington Shores. We absolutely love it. It's a lazy beach town to me, but still very close to some more hopping places like Clearwater, Tampa, and St. Petersburg.

Thanks for the info Alycia! I’m not even sure where we are going but I gave my wife money for the deposit. She told her cousin to pick a place. She lives by Tampa.

Alright and with the magic of digital editing….

I also have extra rock so I may add some later but it would be max a couple of pieces small pieces in the sand bed. All the rock was placed on the glass and then the sand was added second. As extra safety (and because it would not fit on its own (lol) I added the support on the arch as I could not fit all three pieces independently but in the end it fit perfectly just under the arch giving it extra support so….

Man it cleared up so fast too.

I’d say hurricanes usually aren’t as dangerous as people expect about 90% of the time. It does really depend on the storms trajectory as usually one section or area gets the brunt of the damage. Even with a Category 4 or 5 storm, it often only severely impacts one section of the state, but since it can change direction it mainly leads to business and job shutdowns rather than immediate personal danger.

I’ve gone outside before — even during Category 4 & 5 storm hurricane conditions — and aside from heavy wind, it didn’t feel nearly as extreme as you might imagine.

The surprising part is that the same wind that can uproot trees or carry boats inland doesn’t always feel that intense when you step outside. They’re definitely a very different type of threat compared to something sudden and violent like a tornado where it can pick up people.

Yeah but when they start throwing the Gulf up on your doorstep, that story changes super fast.

I am here to tell you that hurricanes are no joke.

We took a direct hit with Ian. By direct hit I mean a 100% dead on, direct hit. It was absolutely wild, crazy and, I daresay, scary. It was nearly an 8 hour ordeal because it moved so slow. The coolest part of the whole thing was I went outside, to let the dogs out, when we were in the eye. This happened roughly 3 hours and 45 minutes into it. Then the second half hit and was much worse than the first half. Devastation and death everywhere. After that, if there is any chance of future hurricanes, we are outta here. Packing up and heading to a hotel that is far away.

I remember Ian very well. Katrina was so bad that the search and rescue teams had to spray paint how many deceased people were in a building and just keep on going to locate all the missing. Then eventually everyone was able to be collected as the are was cleared enough to get them out.

They called them Katrina doors.

Yeah. Cape Coral & Fort Myers and even some parts of Naples mostly along the coast (where I am at) was kind of the location that got the brunt of the last storm. Honestly it was the way the storm moved that caused the issue as the storm surge is not too common unless the storm goes in a specific way. I actually own an Insurance agency so with 90% of the claims there was very little wind damage, but rather a lot of flood/storm surge damage. Its sad too as only 34% of Floridians have flood coverage (and I will tell you its not mostly people on the coast that have it) and the NFIP/FEMA just railed Florida but increasing the rate 5 to 6 times on new Flood policies.

Ian was very unique as it really was mostly category 3-4 winds, but just the path it took brought the water & storm surge very inland. I was lucky as I am about 3 miles from the coast but I am very elevated so even being in a first floor condo I had no flood damage.

Katrina was only a 3 when she hit, but sat over us for almost 12 hours. The tide surge was over 40 feet and we got something like 2 feet of rain in that time span. All of those numbers together =annihilation.
