Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Here you go its kind of dark... In the first chamber I have the heater, the UV sterilizer and the annoying skimmer, 2nd chamber is a bunch of live rock, 3rd is just the return pump.

I would say this is an unusual design. It seems that all of the chambers may always be the same height which means the 'bubble trap' (the thin chamber between the second and return chamber is doing nothing unless you have a course sponge in there and even then it isn't as effective as it should be.

Does you return chamber water height fluctuate independently or does the entire sump stay at the same level all the time? It is possible that your sump is really just a tank with separators that serve no practical purpose.

Well my day of relaxation has finely come to an end. Wife told me to stretch out my stiffness, so i did it while tilling the main garden, along with the now pepper garden. worked that stiffness out just fine.

It stays the same all the time would increasing the speed of the return pump do anything?

Glad your day went well sir!

Another thing I've been wondering what's the point of pointing frozen food in one of those feeders that float around the tank as it melts? Why not just toss in the frozen food and let the current carry it around as it melts which is what I do.
Two differences. Letting it melt in a contained space allows more controlled dispersal and if it designed well, the dispersal is below the surface which means less of it gets sucked into the overflow.

Not really since the chambers aren’t made to have varying water levels. Most baffles you can adjust water levels between the chambers

Tom do you ever see temp fluctuations with the temp sensor in your ato chamber? I really wanted to put mine there, but I was afraid the cooler ato water would throw off the temps. Just curious about your experience, friend.
No my ATO water is room temperature and is added in small quantities.

So my sump is basically not acting as a filter other than the filter cups collecting debris?

With flow going through there, it shouldn't depending on how much your ATO is dumping in there at a time.
That's a good point, and I have really strong flow back there

@Rocks reef Is going to destroy this...

Thanks Tom. Im definitely moving mine then. Im less paranoid thanks to you and Rock.

Unfortunately no, if they all stay the same all of the time your sump is just a tank with some partitions to keep it neat. Did you take any pics of it before you set it up? It may be easy to modify.

wife's goldfish pond is looking a lot better, had the majority of the plants from last year die off last winter. i guess the 1/2 think ice layer did them in. But they caused an algae bloom, with warmer temps. I added the same U.V.light I have on my 40B tank I had it on there for 2 days a week ago, but had to remove due to rain. I improvised a weather cover and after 3 days you can actually see the fish. Sicce sincra silent 3.5 pumping the water through the UV.

@Gumbies R Us Not exactly early metal, but it has that dark tone that wasn't as prevalent in that time. You can see some influences down the road, especially with the guitar. Powerman 5000 almost uses this exact voice!

No I just set it up the way the guy I got it from had it. It was setup when I went to get it so I just drained it and brought everything home and set it up again as fast as I could to try to not upset the cycle.

It is still filtering. The cups, the skimmer and the rock are all doing their job it is just not as efficient as it could be, it will be more difficult to keep the skimmer tuned and your ATO will be using the height of the entire sump for refill instead of just the return chamber.

Right now I'm being held down by my chihuahua mix. When she decides to release me as her captive I am just going to double check that they are silicone in place. I have never tried to move them but I'm 99.9% sure they are.
