Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I will. Right now it is just hanging around growing. And thanks. Actually acquired it here.

Now that's a serious addiction and right to the point

Bite your tongue

I have to agree.

Sounds like a kindred spirit
How do reply to multiple posts like that?

When I lived back east my first MHs were two 400 rigs from Coral something or other, Maybe Coralife? over two 55 acrylics other than warping and discoloring the top plate of the tanks they worked well and a fan was enough.

When I ran them in AZ I ran three Aqua Medic 250s over three 40 Breeders which were about as big as I could go in the apartments. The fans worked well for the tank, but didn't help with temperatures in my office very much. The tanks were fine but the surrounding area was hot and the fans I could find then were loud.

I have considered putting two Aqua Medic 250s (a local LFS has, or at least had, four or five of them sitting in their used section) over my lagoon but the Meridians seem to work well, just very blue and without the punch you get from MH. I don't miss the heat, the ballasts or the bulk. I do miss the look, the simplicity, and the way corals grew.
It probably was coral life . I remember when those were big and coral life was all over them .

Okay showing my ignorance a bit here. But can't a person just turn down the blues?

Same thing. Can't the LED lights be tweaked to give the same look?
You can get close but the halide has a different look.
Led left
Halide right.
In person its more noticeable but you can clearly see the differrnce even in this pic.

Not anymore it isn't. But I heard it grows on trees. If I can just get the right species......
If money did in fact grow on trees, you'd have more money than anyone!

Sort of... well, no.
If you look at a spectrograph of a LED reef light versus a halide you will immediately notice there is A LOT of spectrum missing in a LED. Most of the light from LED is focused in a very narrow blue band, no LED has true UV and below nor near IR and above... most lack red and green as well. A metal halide has a true full spectrum. Closest thing to natural sunlight if you go to say a 6500K bulb.

Love how puffy yours are. Fabulous looking. I want to keep mine looking round. And right now I had to put it on a frag holder. Silly snails kept hiding it in the sand!
Shelley the plates that I have on rock domes or large rock rubble are the puffiest and most round. The ones I have left free tend to be more flat.

And fairly boring! Go team windex!

Sorry, it's an LFS in Mesa AZ that has tons of used gear. Piles of used tanks, stands, sumps, skimmers and older hardware, sometimes some newish stuff as well. They also sell new have a decent freshwater section and used to have a decent saltwater section with lots of local frags but the last few times I was there, the saltwater section was in rehab. You do need to be careful as you can get burned but most of it is good older gear.
Oooh I’d like that place .
