What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
With this author's suggestion to post, I post this on his Showcase.
Looking for Angels who are willing to donate to a good cause.
I am in Week 5 of the Residents Reef a 13.5 Gal Fluval Evo Xii. I Have been building this on a minimum budget for a group of long-term residents and I am worried I have bitten off more than I can chew already. There is not much in it but they are already enjoying it so much. I have been given some corals and got some deals on a couple of corals at a local Frag Show in Lansing MI. They weren't in the best of health and I'm trying to nurse them back to health but not sure a couple of them will make it mainly one of the hammer corals and a possible Goni that is mostly skeleton but it was worth a shot. I don't have the proper testing kits which is not a good thing but I haven't had the money to get them :thinking-face: I should have started with them but they add up. You know what they say Hindsight right? Learning the hard way SMH. Anyway, I've been battling a hair-algae outbreak. I have a CUC but they're not doing much about it. it consists of 10 snails, 3 hermit crabs, an emerald crab, and a peppermint shrimp. I have been doing weekly water changes, not sure what more I can do to battle this hair algae problem with the budget which is nil at the moment. Any suggestions other than what I am doing so far or maybe what I am doing wrong? I am just trying to do something nice for some residents. I think it needs to be upgraded with more flow and lighting and I need better testing supplies. if there are any angels out there who might want to donate to a good cause I have an Amazon list where you could donate things that I'm hoping to get for them. I could use some testing kits and a powerhead for more flow.

if you already have gear lying in a closet somewhere you think might be of help and would like to pay it forward and help out that way that's fine too. I do plan on upgrading the tank in the near future to a 40-60-gallon tank. So if you have something you think might work for that, a donation would be appreciated as well. Send me a PM and I'll give you an address where it could be shipped. If you would like to follow the build I have a Build Thread which you can follow here.
https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/r...draising-build-for-elderly-residents.1029458/Also if for any reason this tank has to be taken down anything that is donated will be donated back to the reef2reef community on the pay it forward thread. To whoever reads this thank you for taking your time and your consideration. It's ok if this is not the right time for you. I believe in this wonderful Reef2Reef community and with the amount of members we have I think the support will be there. Feel free to share my build thread pass it around and watch it grow.
Thank you for posting and best of luck and best wishes.
Perhaps trying locally first would be my suggestion, maybe a local reef club or even an LFS nearby would donate.

Idk if y’all have Instagram but if you want to follow my Fish Tank account it’s call reefdevils. I post pictures of my tank on there. I try to do it weekly.
I followed you. Rescuedismyfavoritebreed is mine.

Wow, just checked your Insta page, we have the same tank and a similar DT photo - of course mine is just starting. Too cool. I have added you to my curated list I follow on Instagram.

oh lord … Does anyone have a good reply when the wife asks for a fish just cause it’s pretty
Yes you just say yes dear and get the fish if it needs a different tank you use it as an excuse to get another tank and tell her it's for her.

Yes not on purpose I will try to get a pic when the lights are stronger but won't be easy as one cave is a little bit hidden inside a bridge.
I have only seen one person do this before. They ended up by chance getting a male and female. They got very territorial when they spawned and had to go into a tank alone. If they need to separate, you could do your frag tank with one or the pair.

There will be 3 outputs possible, one will go back to a LFS if aggression happens or the sneaky dotty back keeps them in place as she is turning around rocks all day long (she is between them) or I am lucky.

I would expect the dottyback to be the mean one
