My biggest issue, is being humble. I have no problem teaching people. These young kids think they already know all there is to know. The current helper i have now has had 3 shorts in 3 weeks. Meanwhile idk if I've had that many in the 8 years I've been with this company. I know i haven't had any as basic and due to carelessness. When I ask what happened it's like "eh s*** happens, not my fault, you get that on these big jobs" rhetoric. And it's like, half the problem is no one taught him how to properly strip a cable or that you don't need to torque down a connector to the point it shorts out the wiring. Simple little things. When I first started I'd ask all kinds of questions, simple and complex, why do you do it this way? Or is there a easier way to do this than what I'm doing? These young kids... lol I can't believe I'm the old guy complaining about young kids now hahaha

Being an electrician, 100% would rather have a 30 year old absolutely green new hire, over a 20 year old with a year or 2 experience. I've gone through so many.. have them a few months, next thing you know i hurt there feelings because it shouldn't take 30mins to wire up each receptacle. Or they think that after a year in the trade they have enough experience to disregard what I say if I tell them I want it done a certain way. Then it's not their fault when we turn the circuit on and all there stuff trips and mine doesn't. My boys going to start working with me young. I have a wood stove, mostly because I like sitting by the fire drinking a cup of coffee in the morning, or the flicker of the flames at night. Not my primary heat source, but he'll be out there helping me process trees when he's older. He doesn't need to kill himself, it's not slave labor, but he's going to have the same mentality that I do. Your worth more than the sum what you get done yes, but what you do, and how you act, plays a huge part in who you are.

I had Ride the Lightning album when no one even heard of them. I think it was about a year later or so they they started popping up. No one in CT ever heard of Kill em All back then either. I actually bought the Ride the Lighting by mistake when it was released. I think 85 was when they started getting popular.

Kill Em All... they were so young back then and just absolutely killing it. Deep heavy riffs, man.. Lars Ulrich blew me away. I was listening to them in the mid 80s as well.

I had seasoned professionals do the electric when I built my house. they actually did all the houses in a block. I've had so many issues. about once a month my garage breaker trips. I think there may be wires arcing? but a couple neighbors have said the same thing. I found (after replacing) all the exterior lights that failed, they never put the weather strip seals on. upon moc=ving in, I found 3 outlets that didn't work at all. apparently they forgot to connect the bathroom outlet and a bedroom still had the open sockets behind the sheet rock. the AC unit exterior switch I heard the metal box clank one day and walked outside and the guy that was hooking up the neighbors one said he forgot what he did and was just checking it. Had to go back and request the outlets that I put on the original list to be installed. When he was hooking the wires up to the ones they forgot behind the wall I asked if he wanted me to flip the breaker for him and he said no, he's been doing this for a long time. but meanwhile he got zapped 3 times trying to hook it up while live. I don't remember the company or their names but the head guy looked just like Mark Whalberg. Spent a lot of time later talking to HD and Lowes peeps bout how to wire something and lengths etc...But I did my own few hookups and have yet to have an issue. I just don't like working with electrical.

I need to get my masters... I hear hack job stories like this all the time. Nothing but time is the problem. Gotta take a 45hr code update before I can sit for my masters exam and I barely have time to manage all my duties as is lol

Well look at the times. When you and I had to do a report, we had to spend the week in the library. You had to really know something before you could write about it or take a test on it. Now you can have the theory of relativity explained to you on your cellphone within 30 seconds. A lot of things do come easier to this generation. I'm fine with technology and progress, but when things get tough and there is no easy answer, man you just have too get it done!

Very true, and if we looked like an idiot we'd get bullied :face-with-tears-of-joy: not saying bullying is the answer, but maybe the polar opposite is also a problem haha

yeah, I did a 20a fuse and ran 12/2 about a foot underground (it's all rock) about 75 feet-100feet. 20amp receptacles. 2 outside outlets are GFCI. I asked so many questions about this. was told just dig as deep as you can and you just need the conduit where it comes out of the ground. Yes, it's burial cable. but think it needed to be much heavier for the distance. The first exterior outlet is about 50 feet at most and only place I hook up a table saw or miter. has never tripped. I don't use the furtherest outlet for anything more than lights. I'm sure this is no no. but after many questions and answers from a few box stores they said it's OK as long as I don't hook up something heavy at the end.

yeah, I had a knowledgable person install 2 breakers in my box for me and I did the rest myself. was afraid when I opened the box it will spill out with all this wore. but was actually fairly neat and well managed. afterwards I just took my time drilling holes for the wires and running it. I still have a few outlets I'd like to add but just haven't done it. I'm pretty sure though I was supposed to have the conduit piped across the yard underground. but they said no you don't need it. so I went down as deep as I could from 12" to 18" and at 6" I did the metallic electrical caution tape. but I don't think I was supposed to have 20 amp receptacle at the end but I think it was you can't have one then 15s. they all needed to be the same or something. and said 20's was OK at that point. But it's super easy to undo. I was thinking if it was an issue for the long run I could cut it and do a small solar hookup. I just needed some lights on the other side of the yard. the outlet out there was meany for holiday lights at most.

I mean, it'll likely never be an issue. Not quite up to code, but your allowed to do all the work you want to your own home lol

I dont like burial cable. Not in Maine, frost can push some rocks around a lot. That said, it's usually fine. If you have it on 12/2 and it's not a long run, your good. You can technically use 15a devices i think but it has to be so many devices minimum i think. I always run 20's as they aren't expensive.

The advantage of underground cables is that you rarely lose power. Here in Miami, many areas have cables on poles, and a strong wind or a fallen tree can leave you without electricity.

Is he skinny? My Starry is a big old fatty McPatty. I rarely see him eat but he's always pecking at the rocks and he scrapes the algae growth from inside the feeding tube regularly (I hear him over there).

I dont really see him peck at rocks.. Hes not relatively skinny he's more mid sized right now.

Oh we have the same issue with winter storms. By burial cable i mean UF cable. Or "direct burial cable." I prefer cables protected my conduit underground. The UF cable usually does ok, but I've seen a plenty of issues where the frost moves rocks around and cuts the jacket of the wire up
