As simple as vodka or white distilled vinegar or there's also specific additives on the market (which i haven't fully researched) that are long chain carbon sources like @tharbin had mentioned using to avoid algae! I think @Miami Reef Has a good write up about it somewhere

I was going to do a bunch of studying up before I started. That said, I saw a chart and a bunch of positives on how to do it. I also like to feed heavy and my nutrient export needs to be improved somehow so I figured try this next. Saturday morning im doing some water testing and that'll decide which route I take

Makes sense that the video I saw that said no cons was a BRS videos with the guy from Tropic Marin probably just trying to sell a product haha

Probably Lou. Since Tropic Marin's carbon dosing products are all long-chain, the cons are minor but even they can be utilized to an extent by algae/cyano and they can be overdosed and crash Nitrate/Phosphate. I think the video should have said, if the directions are followed the cons are minimized.

Since everything in a reef tank is trying to maintain a balance against everything else everything you do in a tank benefits some things and harms others. The trick is to try to minimize the harm to things you want to maintain and maximize damage to things you think you want to eliminate. Although eliminating even harmful organisms can have a negative side-effect on a tank.

If they're gyres just check them from time to time and scrape/clean the Aips as soon as you see them, the Aiptasia love to hang out on them and the nudis can't get to them there. I use a small deburring blade to scrape them off and then rub some peroxide where they were. Not perfect but it helps.

I'm pretty sure I still have the nudis because there are no Aiptasia on any of the rocks or panels, just the return Loc-line and the sump but the nudis won't go near a pump and the gyres are Aip magnets.

I run one 4k gyre and have had to run it in citric acid for that reason (plus other build up).
