What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?

just getting in this conversation, guess this is one really big tank, with a really big light assembly
4' 120g with a 48" giesemann stellar and 2 vipar spectra. Weighs about 30 ish pounds
 
I use these for a really heavy light in a green house. Basically you pull both cords at the same time to lift evenly. To lower you push the button while holding the light strap/wire.

That could work! I'd have to figure a way to make sure it settles back into the exact same height when I'm done
 
Anyone have experience with pulley systems? I want to be able to lift my light. Im not looking at spending $400 to build a rigging though... so i figure a pulley system. Im just not sure how to go about lifting the light evenly and securely with one crank vs one for each side/corner

The AI system I have is something similar, it gives me the option to raise and lower the lights because the cable is very long.

I have a kit for my light setup, but it was a pain to get level because its so heavy and i'm leaning over my tank standing on a step stool.

You know what, gimme a few minutes and I'll draw up my idea with cables! I just have no clue if it'll make it easy for the pulleys, or harder. I know something like, the more pulleys the more cable you need?
 
So heres my thought. Red is cable, yellow are pullies, and the green signifies raising my attachment points up tp get maximum mobikity. 2 cables, one pulley. I figure if i need to, i can go straight down behind the tank, through th floor into the basement, hit a pulley towards the front of the tank, pulley up through the floor, then hit a hand crank winch? I just dont know how to make that work best. The attic above is accessible but thats the exterior wall at the bottom kf the roof pitch so not much if any head room

My problem now, is the brs dod part testing on a 24"x24"x24" tank with the 24" version of my light and ideal mounting height is 3-6" but at 10" I cant really work in my tank without hitting the light and I like to spot feed occasionally as well as I have a scraper tool, and grabber do hickeys that I cant barely use at the current height. Would love to just pit it up and out of the way!

You can just put a mark on the cord. If you want a single cord, you could tie the cords together and put a single eye loop screw in the middle in the ceiling and use that as another pulley. But I would just use the two cords and see if you even like it. It’s inexpensive too

I was gonna say! Every other option I've seen is stupid money. And if it doesn't work for upstairs it can be used eventually in the basement if u ever get a frag tank 🤔 😉
 
Maybe time the 2 lift points together and hook to a single cable like so

I’d eyescrew above the tank. Tie the cords together, then place a curtain hold back type to the left of the tank above the light to keep the cords out of the main view.

You can even use it to hang plants outside.

That was my first thought, but yea, seemed to get complicated or expensive fast
