If you are doing just 10% you could probably get by adding it in quarters over a couple hours but I would get a cheap heater for the future.

Let’s say you have a 80 gallon tank. You want to do a 10% water change which would be 8 gallons. Remove 8 gallons from your tank after you mixed 8 gallons of new water. Add two gallons every half an hour.

Ah.. I was thinking of doing 30-50% to hit the ground running. Problably 30% just to make it more manageable and less time consuming. Can I keep saltwater in the trashcan for more then a week? And every two days throughout that week use the water? The plan is to basically make trash can capacity and do 30% every two days.

It's what I've been recommended and I personally think it'd be better for the ecosystem. Smaller changes will cause me to be less consistent.

I think I'll do 30%. Which is 20 gallons at a time.

I do 12.5% weekly changes and I never stored it but I believe you can store it in a sealed container up to two weeks before alk begins to drop and minerals start to precipitate.

So.. maybe I do bigger changes for three weeks then do weekly and get a schedule going... 20 gallons every two or three days, once nitrates are looking better I'll move to 10-12.5% changes every week. Probably every Friday or Saturday.

Good morning Smorg! Another busy weekend so far. I wanted to drop in and say hello!!

On a more depressing note, Miami Reef (Baruch) passed away at the end of the week. I found out from Troylee. He was an asset to this forum.

Ive never once heated my water for a water change and I do them religiously. 25% at a time. With that being said, most of your more seasoned reefers would advise you to heat it I suppose.

@cdemoss01 See!? Told ya not to listen to me. This is my general reefing attitude though. I have probably one of the lowest tech tanks of anyone you know. Hand dosing, gfo/carbon in a bag etc. I think I have filter floss behind the aio wall. It's been a while since I checked lol.

To get my nitrates from 160 down too reasonable levels. It's what I was recommended by Uncle99 and others.
