Nice...not $1500.00 nice but nice just the same! I used to buy 2000lb LC containers of live rock, fish and inverts for that...no way I could talk myself into spending that on one thumb nail of a coral...just me. I guess that is why my aquariums are still empty hahaha .

Guys I'm dying here! One of my coworkers gave everyone gift bags this morning and mine had a super adorable little axolotl, a little horse and a small Lego set that is also a horse. There are also pens and neat shaped sticky pads and neat shaped paperclips and binder clips with smiling faces and a note pad!

That's my point.
A famous name starts an endless pyramid scheme. I understand that exclusivity comes at a price, but if you bought it for $50, how does that price reach $1500?
I have no proof, but I also have no doubt that this does more harm than good to the hobby, and that's why many either never start or give up because anyone can change the name of a coral this days and make it inaccessible to many.

I've always been curious about this whole thing with coral names and exorbitant prices.

How does it actually work?
Do you become famous selling corals or whatever, and then one day, by chance, you find a rare coral at your local fish store and decide to

give it your own name and set whatever price you want?

I'm genuinely asking out of complete ignorance because I don't know how it works.

Yes Luis, I found this extremely rare coral at my lps and I named it 24K, Ilya, Rasta, rainbow, fairy fart, glitter bomb gsp. I’ve been selling 1” frags for $2600 and can barely keep up with orders because it’s so slow growing. Of course there is a 10% discount for everyone on the Smorgasbord because I’m that kind of guy.
