I have a question for the more handy people here (lol)

So I am having someone quote me on replacing my water heater and I was going to ask him give me a quote to hang my RODI unit under my sink and add a diverter valve to make it easier. I assume I want the black line which is the drain line to be plumbed directly down the drain. Is there anything else I should ask him to do for extra precautions or I should be gucci with just that instructions. I have the BRS RODI Unit with just three lines, red for inlet water, blue for good water, and black for waste water.

Also does anyone know if this is safe to use in an aquarium?

Just finished adding 50 lbs of live rock and 90 lbs of live sand. This old man is beat but beer got me through it. I added my gsp island as canary in the coal mine. Complete tank transfer tomorrow, wish me well.

Do you have a acrylic tank that is in service , I spoke with Lowell yesterday and he used to build them , my question is for someone else who actively have a unit and to tell me how difficult it is to keep it clean . My issues is with scratching and yellowing .

Yes, my Lagoon 100 is acrylic and I've had two 55 gallon acrylics. @TheWB has a tank nearly identical to mine that is also acrylic.

Quick response, good quality acrylics don't yellow. They can scratch but truthfully I don't think there is a big difference between a quality acrylic and a low-iron glass tank as far as scratch resistance. Also acrylics seem to hide their scratches a little better. The real key is a good fabricator that uses quality acrylics. A quality acrylic also shouldn't craze. Besides that many scratches can be sanded out which isn't possible with a glass tank.

I've only retired one tank due to scratches, a 15 gallon Waterbox low-iron glass tank. I would say that you want to use a reputable acrylic fabricator for an acrylic tank as a few of the mass-market acrylic tanks are not as well made as they could be.

Cleaning is a little different as you use plastic-edged scrappers, melamine sponges (like magic erasers), and acrylic safe pads/cleaners instead of the stuff you are used to. I'd say it's a little more work if you let things go but it isn't much harder.

Yellowing is not a thing with cell cast acrylic. It is an urban legend spread by glass tank builders in an effort to distract people from the green cast from glass panels. Acrylic is many times clearer than glass of the same thickness.

Ever wonder why all the public aquariums use Acrylic? 6 to 7 times more impact resistant and way clearer. Looking through a 12" thick panel and it is water clear!

My tank is actually quite badly scratched due to a stupid mistake made by the moron who owns it. I’m not kidding, it’s bad, but honestly they are totally unnoticeable under normal viewing conditions. We’re talking multiple circular scratches on a large part of the front panel. If you didn’t already know the scratches were there you’d never notice them. You have to actually try to see them. If you have an acrylic tank it’s gonna get scratched, it just is, but in my opinion as someone who has really messed one up and is currently living with it, it’s not that big of a deal.
YMMV based on your level of OCD. It’s highly likely to get scratched at some point no matter how careful you are. If you can’t let stuff go maybe don’t get acrylic or low iron glass.
