Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Sorry if I missed it, where do you keep your nitrates and phosphates at?

I have same issue with zoa's, they're slow but mushrooms and leathers are not an issue. I feed heavy though, I'd like to think it's a dirty tank.
My test run around this everytime I test.
Phosphate 1
Kh 9.3
Magnesium 1230
Calcium 460
Nitrate 25
Ph 7.7

Woah those phosphates are up there but I don't think they would mind. I have similar PH levels and I'm trying to figure out a good way to solve it.

I wonder if the phosphates are the problem?

Sorry that's a typo it should be .25 on the phosphates

. 25 sorry it was a typo trying to work and chat here at the same time lol

Lol!! I was about to say, going for the record are we?

Ahhh gotcha. With softies and LPS, .25 is just fine. If you feel that's a bit higher than you like, add a little gfo, do a small water change every so often, blow the gunk off your rocks with a turkey baster to help remove detritus from them. :)

Mine runs between. .1 and .3 as well, I may drop it as I start to add acros. The lps love it though.

My corals get a mix of reef roids, zeobak, zeozym, macrobacter 7, Red Sea AB+ and Tropic Marin Trace A & K. For two of the feedings I add a small amount (pea size) of "The Concoction" which is sold by a VERY experienced and knowledgeable reefer. It is basically what I mix up to feed, but it has been fermented so there is a ton of probiotics along with the gut loaded bacteria to feed the corals and increase bacterial biome.

Rock, I use this as my trace and amino supplement. Do you think it would work in place of TM A & K?

By "ferment" you're referring to the addition of the macrobacter 7 bacteria?

Yo Mike! Hit us with some pics brocephus!
haha when I get home, I need to play with the lights/time/wind down, I think its winding down right now but I have no idea.

MY LFS gave me a serious par meter to test out my ranges, so maybe I will do some test for science.

I wonder if it could be PH related. I know when I moved a frag from one tank to another it did take it a while to settle in but after that it started growing like crazy. I also have colonies that double or tripled in size within 3-4 months. I have some where I literally have frags in the sand that I just give away because they grow so fast.

I have some Salted Agave Zoa's that are starting to pick up speed on growth. It started as one polyp in July and now it is around 9 polyps. That's really my slowest grower though.

That was my thought as well, i'm also experimenting with Kalk again for the PH benefits because its a struggle for me. I can't open windows too often here, it's very dusty since I'm on the mountain so PH is almost always below 8.

Are they the same type of Zoas in both tanks? I have some zoas that grow like crazy and others that I feel like take forever to grow. I have one type of Zoa that wants over 200+ par and I have others that like closer to 50 par. I feel like Zoa's prefer a bit dirtier water and want good trace elements as well so if you have something like GSP or Xenia or leathers they can be outpaced by other faster growing corals absorbing too much of those trace elements.
Most of my zoas are at the top under about 400 PAR. My utter chaos are in about 150, same as my Strats

Let me look again at my test results to make sure I have you the right number. I keep them in my phone.

I may break out my par meter and do some par readings of my tank tonight with the Nicrew 200s in case anyone's interested. If not I will post them on my thread or I can post them here if anyone was looking at them as a possibility on their tank. I am thinking of testing AB+ and just scale it down. I can tell these lights are bright. I can't imagine how much par it will output at full blast.
