What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
could copy this design for a media cart and hang it in place of the first chamber

That's a great idea. You could add several different types of media in one chamber. That looks like a winner to me

sounds like we have a winner, should start on it in the morning, have everything except the bulkhead and line loc return , the Tunze DOC comline 9001 skimmer is not here yet, but I have the specs on on it so I have room for it when needed

I've seen some really cool finds down here in my area! It was highly explored by the French and Spanish explorers so there have been some cool artifacts associated with that. Then all the hurricanes over the years tossing things around...
If I were to ever visit that area, instead of metal detector, I'd bring a brain detector because I love an almost impossible challenge

You know you're from Torchville, and you're also the mayor.
Yeah, I don't know about being the mayor Have you caught a glimpse of @Rocks reef torches?
@Calmwaters

+5 cents, since they don't make pennies any longer.

A skimmer will remove SOME dissolved organics (DOC) so it can be useful if you tend to overfeed. It will slightly lower nitrates and phosphates due to the removal of the DOCs. It will also reduce some essential and trace elements. It has been a very popular device since the late 70s but it is never essential unless you design your filtration strategy around it. Most of your filtration happens in your rock and sand.

Where a skimmer is most useful is to increase gas exchange. That increases oxygen in the tank and, assuming the CO2 in your home is on the low side, will increase the pH of your tank.

It, like almost every piece of equipment on your tank is a trade off. It helps in some ways and hurts in others.

I do run a skimmer on my current tank but it is intentionally undersize and I run it fairly dry as I don't like stripping elements and nutrients just to spend more money reintroducing them. I use it mainly for additional gas exchange. My CO2 levels are pretty high since we are always home so it doesn't really help our pH at all.
As usual, we are about on the same page, Tom Have you thought of printing yourself a CO2 scrubber?

Home sick from work, so trying to catch up a bit
Hope you're feeling better soon!

its just a twenty gallon, up grading my crab tank for better filtration and allowing for a better lid, its not a display tank

Ok thanks

I also agree that a media caddy is the way to go

only chamber I planned on having media was the one by the return, more like a bubble trap with this in it since i have plenty

That's what I have over my return pump intake. It catches a surprising amount of gunk.

Finally paid off the deductible for Adelaida's hospital birth. That's 50 bucks a month I can keep in my pocket....And then spend on diapers 😄😅

Ive been saying this for a while!

Cheers buddy!

That’s it, Luis and I discussed it and you are officially in the green bottle club, congratulations. We only let in a select few. Paul almost made it. Have you drank Rolling Rock before?
