Throwing this out there for y'all...
We've all been told hundreds of times API tests are no bueno.
Now, I've used these tests for my entire life and I admit they're hard to read, thus the reason I spent the money on Hanna testers.
As the price of the refill regents went up I decided to try an API nitrate test while running the biopellets.
Matching this to my Hanna as I went really helped decipher the colors, and,honestly, they were pretty close give or take.
The swamp really didn't care about nitrates.
About a week ago, all my algae was gone.
Vanished.
I have a little green on the rocks, that's it.
I got a new regent pack off Amazon, tested and I'm blinking 75, 3 times.
API shows nothing, 3 times.
These regent packets from Amazon were clumpy and not much came out.
Dated fine but clumpy.
Second time this has happened ordering from Amazon.
Never had this happen from premiumaquatics.
Check those packets...

Good morning Joel. API has always been close enough to all the major testers in my experience. I cant tell you how many times I've compared them to Hannah or even this ridiculously overpriced Milwaukee tester, and the discrepancy usually doesn't mirror the price difference. Like I said though, this is just my experience

I don't agree with the multitudes that API are bad. I've never gotten a bad reading from fresh reagents. I only have two issues with them. It can be very hard to figure out the colors correctly and some of them can be less precise than we normally require (phosphate).

Agreed!! I also DO like Hannah's ULR p04 tester

I dabbled a bit on the thread for a number of years , becoming a somewhat permanent resident this past year myself. I’d say it’s a bunch of people who enjoy hanging out with each other and discussing life, reefs and everything in between

I got this guy from my mantis shrimp trap. At first I thought gorilla crab but it doesn’t have black tips on its claws. Any ideas before I post it on R2R? Mantis shrimp 1-Kevin 0.

Yeah, those claws don't look like typical herbivore (or should we say herbivore-dominate-I don't think there is any such thing as a crab that is 100% herbivore) crab claws.

They don't look much different than a male emerald crabs claws to me.
