Cane home from work. Looked at my frag tank just to discover about 10 corals that was fairly close to each other some white, some in process of dying,
This is 500 gallon system with about 150 different corals, my display tank connected to the frag tank, no signs of stress coming from corals in display tank.
I flagged whats left of dying corals. Changed carbon media on entire system. Going to test water even though I dont see any problems with 90% of other corals....
My problem/quastion is! Im leaving for next 2 days. And I dont know what else I can do to make it better in my situation. Kind of freaking out. Dont want to come home to a crashed tank. In below picture you can see open rack space, that is where corals died.

It could be any number of things...check your equipment to make sure nothing is rusting or broken is probably the first place I'd start (including magnetic frag racks).
A couple of large water changes is a good idea.
I'd probably go ahead and send an ICP so you'll know if it was a contaminant or not.
Could be a bacterial infection I suppose too, but seems a little "out of the blue" to be that, but still a possibility. FWIW, I had some random RTN events late last year and I finally decided to dose cipro for a few days out of desperation. It seems to have worked. Haven't lost anything since and that was 4-5 months ago.

Do you have active monitoring of your pH?

With them being all close together and the rest of the system being fine my first guess would be a bacterial infection. Do you have a UV sterilizer you can run while you're away?

Thank you all, I do have uv sterilizer, good idea, I should run it to be safe also.

Do you have windows open? Live in an area that has a lot of allergens?

Been researching a bunch today due to STN events happening to mature SPS colonies in my tank. Spring + pollen + open windows = excess organics/carbon and that can very easily cause a massive outbreak of cyano/dinos. I have had a random dino outbreak in the past ~1 week for NO reason at all. I have also had a very abrupt increase in NO3/PO4 in the system and the only thing I can attribute to that is that we have been keeping windows open and doors open because the weather is so nice. Well all the plants and trees are also flowering putting an insane amount of pollen in the air.

Run some good carbon and if your nutrients are spiking, get something going to help that also. Sorry you are also dealing with the spring chaos.

In florida we dont open windows. However I get direct line tied to my skimmer from outside air. Also have a co2 scrubber for outside air just before skimmer.
Its really odd and I doubt ill have a good answer as to what happened, im thinking something of infection that spread. I have not add anything to the for at least have a year.

Could also be a bacterial infection like you have speculated. I have also run into that.
