Hey Hey,

I am getting ready to put together a 10g prop tank for my super rare zoas(well ok not super rare at all and most have no color) and I was curious about filters. Some people say they just use a powerhead and others say they use filter/powerhead .

What is everyone's thoughts on this? could I get away with just using a small
Koralia that I have handy?

the small koralia should be enough as long as you have a couple small pieces of live rock in there too.

Its seems like it would not be enough flow. But then again it is only 10 gallons. Would the rock just ask as the filter? Yeah I know thats a dumb question :)

Yea, rock will work as a filter, but if you intend to propagate corals (and grow them fast) I'd set it up just like a DT... there's no difference between them except prop tanks generally are full of eggcrate rather than LR, and they generally are shallow to provide sufficient light easier.

I have also been looking at lights. I currently have a 150w sunpod on my 24g. I was wondering if I could get away with something like a current PC 40w or something for this tank?

Alright just a little update. I picked up 2 ac mini filters for 16 bucks (shipped) I have seen a few others using these on small prop tanks so I think they should be ok for my purposes. I also picked up a refurbed 40w Current USA Satellite for $40 bucks plus shipping from Current . I will take a few pics tonight once I get some water in the tank and the rocks

Well here is a shot with the water, rocks, and rack in.

Here is what this tank has.

- AC mini Filter
- MJ 400
- Current 40w PC light
- 3lbs live rock

This is going to be a very basic tank and thus far the entire setup is under 100 bucks.

I will not have the light till Tuesday or Wed.
