Are they made out of glass or a polymer? If glass do you have to supplement UV and if polymer will it break down from the UV?

Absolutely amazing! Who needs expensive LED lights?!? I see you have plenty of angels and butterfly - how do they do with all that coral? I've steered clear because I read that they both nip and some just eat corals.Hello friends, it's the 11-year anniversary of our natural sun-lit reef tank. It has been one bumpy ride. Thanks so much for the continued support through the years. I can safely say my experiment using natural sunlight to light my reef has been a success! Please enjoy a few pictures of the reef!

Thanks! This is the first time in 11 years that I have LED lighting added it was part of the refresh that I did in the beginning part of the year they were added more as a way to show the tank off in the evening hours and help with the long winter days with less sunshine. I've had fairly good luck with the angels and butterfly's had a lemon peel I needed to get out asap he was hitting everything.Absolutely amazing! Who needs expensive LED lights?!? Thanks so much! This is so rad! Great work @jdpiii3, I can certainly see the resemblance to snorkeling in the Caribbean. So cool.
Thank you!This. Is. Awesome.
Bravo!
Thanks, none that would make me not want to build again, just with I went larger now.wow sweets setup

Thanks Dave, yes the road was difficult really glad I had so many of my reefing friend from around the world with me!Congrats on 11 years - Hasn't been an easy path for you but the tank is a wonderful memory holder for you.

They are acrylic, I've changed them out one time so far due to fogging other than that about every six months or so I hit them with a fine cut polish and they are as good as new.Are they made out of glass or a polymer? Thank you!Super nice.
Thanks so much! Plan big you will get there! This is a dream set up that I have had in mind for when I win the lottery for years, I'm glad to see that somewhere somebody else has been successful with it, and I'm also happy to hear that you have been able to share it with your wife and it will be a happy reminder of times with her awesome reef tank am really 100% jealous

I seeded the tank with the live rock from my 10 year old 150 then added another 400lbs of dry rock.I'm curious about your rock since you are using natural lighting, did you use coral skeletons for your rock, or base rock?
Thanks so much! This still will always be one of my favorite tanks on here!
These 11 years have been a roller coaster of emotions glad you stuck around since the beginning.I remember your build thread from way back and have always been so impressed and inspired by your tank!
Glad to see it's still as amazing as always!
What about with the Kessils off? The tank looks so nice and bright for a deep tank. It has the color and brightness of a real reef. Nice job.I get high 200s at the sand bed.
That is with the Kessils off, the current program I'm running has them maxing out at about 30% output. I only added them this year, more for night time showing of the reef. That was something that always bothered me that I couldn't show my friends The Reef if they came over in the evening. What about with the Kessils off? I didn't think of that. Makes sense. With summer temperatures around 105 I may have to think about this lighting option. That is with the Kessils off, the current program I'm running has them maxing out at about 30% output.
