Thanks so much It's been a long winding road to get here. I hope our story makes people stop for a minute and think about the life they're living. Their relationships and how they treat people. That their spouses will stop for a minute and hug their wives or husbands. And not take anything or moment for granted.Incredible tank but an even a more incredible story behind the tank. The use of natural Florida sunlight is peak awesomeness! Do you get any moonlight into the tank?
Thank you very much! I do astrophotography in my spare time so I was very curious how/if the moonlight was captured by the domes. Thanks so much It's been a long winding road to get here. As for your question about moonlight. Since moonlight is reflected the intensity most of the time is not strong enough, any ambient lighting in the area will affect how the sun domes capture it. I have seen it at times but every light needs to be off in the area.
Happy anniversary! It's the 12-year anniversary of Our Natural Sun-lit reef. Here's some past, and current pictures of our always changing always developing reef.
Several new additions were added, including our Sohal Tang, Desjardini Sailfin Tang and the Japanese Swallowtail/ Spotbreast Angelfish all fabulous additions to our reef.
During this 12th year our reef was nominated and chosen as reef of the month for October 2022. Thanks again Reef 2 Reef!
I was able to spend time with a few of the very special people from Reef to Reef at Reefapalooza - Orlando. Great seeing you again David, and meeting Daniel for the first time.
This 12th year also marked the 10-year anniversary of my beloved wife Kelly's passing, no day goes by that I don't still think about her. The Reef will always be a living testament to the joy she showed developing our reef.
I also lost my faithful companion Stella this past year.
There have been many a times that I have contemplating tossing in the towel, I continue to push through and try to better myself each day. I know in the end it will all be worth it.
Blessings,
Joe
oh, that's awesome let's see some of your best pictures.Thank you very much! I do astrophotography in my spare time so I was very curious how/if the moonlight was captured by the domes.
Thanks so much!Congrats to 12 years of success with your tank!
Thanks! Yes people still tell me you can't grow coral with natural sunlight, and you will have nothing but algae. I'm getting about the same par here in Tampa. Do you have any pictures of your outside coral farm?Congratulations. I have been following your build thread since you started it. Your story while tragic it is also inspiring, and reminds many of us to cherish the moments we have.
I started growing corals outside in the sunlight over 20 years ago. And I just laugh when people spout how sunlight, or white light will kill corals & cause algae outbreaks. I'm in Los Angeles and we get 2000+ par in the summer time and the corals just devour it. My 1500g system has 750g inside under LEDS and the rest outside. And the display tank grows alot more algae than outside. And the pod population in the outside tanks is way larger than the inside tank.
Keep enjoying such a remarkable and evolving keepsake of your love.

Thanks, not a day goes by that I do not think about her, missing her every day. I miss Stella a lot, the house has been so quiet, the fish and the bird are nice but not the same as having a dog.Happy anniversary!
I still feel bad about your wife and Stella but definitely glad you’ve stayed committed to it
