I’m getting back into reefing and was planning to set up this 14 gallon Bowfront that I’ve sitting in a box since we moved a few years ago. Trying to have enough open space while also room to place corals in the future (likely just lps and softies). I’m having mixed thoughts about this, so I need some feedback.

If it were me, I would explore placing the AIO filter in different positions. For example, center agains the back and build scape around it, or on the opposite side so the flow is more centered, or even turned 90 degrees against the right side. I think center back would be the best position and maximize scape opportunities while looking balanced and less obtrusive. And then you could add additional flow pumps on both sides of the AIO filter, which would look nice and balanced while providing flow coverage.

Good luck on your build!

I did consider centering the AIO initially when I purchased everything for this tank, but now I can’t remember why I opted for placing it off to the side. I think I’ll see what I can come up with for the aquascape with it in the center and compare the two visually. Pretty sure I was just trying to avoid having to put 2 poweheads in the tank. I do have 1 small one that I planned on using to help with flow. Guess we’ll see what I can come up with.

Well, here’s what I came up with using the rock that I have. Not sure that I’m digging it. Considering buying new rock also, as this stuff has been used previously and has been sitting in the basement for 3-4 years at least.

My other concern is possible light shadowing in the corners nearest the AIO. Man, why did I think getting back into this was gunna be easy
