I have also used a diamond tipped hole saw to cut the rock work to fit around and hide my plumbing.

One thing I would like to tell everyone is when using a diamond tipped saw you need water. But if your rock has already been cured be sure to use RO/DI water and not the tap water. I almost made this mistake.

Thoroughly enjoy following your build. Once you put your lights in, how will you get access to the tank for either maintenance or coral placement--I have not figured that out. Love the air vent to evacuate hot air, really brilliant. I also like your thoughts about 5 x reinforcement factor, great planning and foresight

The whole skin of the cabinetry will be removable Not the the cabinet doors. This will make the system look like this minus the plywood at the bottom. That is just to keep my baby girl out of it.

As far as hanging the skin That is still in the planning phase, but I am thinking of using a French Cleat design to simply hang them. I am sure that my wife will want me to put some kind of lock on the skin so the baby can't lift the panels off. That is an accident waiting to happen.

Ha ha I wasn't the one to even think about it at first. My brother who doesn't have an aquarium let alone a reef tank said to me right before I was about to start cutting "are you sure you want to use tap water" it was a face-palm moment.

I figured out a few weeks ago why for they past 2 or so years I have been having extreme problems with cyano in all of my systems. I have tried everything. From GFO to bio-pellets I have even cut back lighting and feeding with no luck. Turns out that the municipal water supply I am on is using chloramines to treat the water as instead to chlorine. Something tipped me off to this when I desided to test my rodi water after changing out all of my filters and resins. Water was coming out high in ammonia. Did some research into why this is happening and found some stuff on chloramines being used in 10% of US municipal water. Living just outside of washington DC I wondered if this was my problem. So I called the water company they informed me that they receive their water from the next county over and I would have to contact them to find out what additives are used to treat the water. Turns out my suspicions were correct. Ugh!!

So now I am ordering some add on pieces to my ro system and we will see if that does the trick.

Those are just the returns for the closed loop. I cant stress enough . . . If you choose to drill out rock to fit it around piping in your system use RO water as your lubricant instead of tap water. I almost made this mistake on my live rock after I already cured it.
