Hello guys, im starting my first thread for my tank that I just got a few days ago. This thread is for me to share my tank, get more opinions on how I should progress with my tank but also a way for me to come back to this and look at my progress. Ill start by saying, progress would probably be VERY slow on this thread as im only 15 and this hobby is expensive lol.

Anyways I got a aquanano 40 with an IKEA stand ( might change the stand ), ai prime, a wavemaker, heater etc, 2 corals, and a bottle of bacto blend, Dino x, Garlic essence ?, and cuprazin, also some sand and live rock for a total of 260 euro. The corals are blue candy cane and and some kind of mushroom I think, I'm not really sure

As of now I'm pretty unsure about livestock or how many I can keep. The fish I like so far are:

- Clownfish
- blue green chromis
- 6 line wrasse
- Royal gramma
- Bangai Cardinal
- Yellowrose Goby
- firefish

Also for cleanup crew I'm not sure what to get but I think I want a shrimp atleast.

Currently have 1 hermit, 1 bumblebee snail, 1 nass snail, 1 clownfish and 1 yellowtail damsel.

For coral I have a few gsp frags, 2 zoa frags, some xenia and red monticap

The royal grammas like to hang upside down in the rockwork. Be sure you have places for them to hide

Well... found aiptasia on the rock to the right so I took it out and broke the bit with aiptasia off. This is what the scape looks like now :

**2 WEEK UPDATE**

Okay, so far my tank is still cycling and the only corals in it are still candy cane and ricordea, looking to get some more corals soon. Also my sanded has started to get some algae ( will link a pic ). And I've don't 1 25% waterchange so far. Also there was a very small snail saw at around a week in and then again a few days ago. Which makes me think my tank might be starting to mature ( will get my tank tested before I add any inverts or fish ).

Some things I'm going to buy at my next visit to my lfs, :

- a bag of sand ( there is bearly enough sand to cover the bottom of my tank rn )

- 2x fluval biomedia 170g ( for some reason, my tank didn't come with any media, so my tanks media rn is a sponge and live rock )

- 50l saltwater ( don't have a rodi unit )


- copepods

- fish food

Well hello and welcome back lol,
After a year of not posting. There has been absolutely 0 progress for school and other reasons and the tank was completely neglected so I am starting again with the same tank and rocks ( diff scape ). The corals did not survive either for specific reasons. But a lone hermit crab did. In 40ppt water salinity somehow. Today I got some stuff from my lfs, brought the salinity down to 35ppt over a few hours and added two bumblebee snails and one nass snail.

Got water tested today and it was good so I got 2 little clownfish. They look healthy.

The ai prime currently, so prob won't be much reefing going on anytime soon lol. Inly tank inhabitants are 2 clownfish and some inverts so it should be fine for now anyways.

Tank shot before I decided to take my ai apart because violet wasn't working, bad idea because the power cable was weak and it broke sadly

UPDATE

I ended up giving the clowns back to my lfs for a voucher for half the price of the clowns because I didn't like the look of the rank and it was infested with aiptasia. I broke it down and bleached the rocks. Set it back up a few weeks later

I got new filter media and started cycle, I still have the nass snail, bumblebee snail and hermit crab that were living in a bucket for that time.


3 days ago I got 2 yellowtail Damsels which are still getting used to the new environment and plan on getting a peppermint shrimp soon

Update 07/01/2023 :


The 2 yellowtail Damsels have been living well, still a bit shy especially the bigger damsel and bearly comes out when people are around but the smaller one usually comes out. Both are out and eating during feeding time though.
Food mainly consists of frozen mysis, high quality pellet and flake food alternating. I'm hoping they start coming out of their cave more.

Today I got my tank water tested at my LFS who use Redsea test kits. According to them everything is " perfect " next time I will ask for exact readings. Although phosphates are a bit high.

I also got a peppermint shrimp because I saw 2 small aiptasia in the tank, idek how or where they came from because I bleached this tank but ah well. Hopefully the peppermint shrimp eats the aiptasia. Also got a small breeder box just incase the damselfish fight or attack anything I may add in the future. Lfs assured me that they should be okay with fish like Bangai cardinals, Clownfish or Royal gramma but if they do fight. I can get them exchanged for another fish.

UPDATE !!

Okay so its been a week since last update and they both have startd coming out a lot more, however I did start seeing the bigger yellowtail damsel being a lot more aggressive and darting at the smaller damsel quite a lot so I decided to put him in an acclimation box for a day or two, after being released from the fish jail. He kinda went back to old habit pretty quick so he has been in the acclimation box since thursday afternoon now and I will be returning him to the shop for a smaller clownfish tommorrow morning.

The hermit, snails and shrimp are also doing well as the smaller damsel which looked a bit stressed with the bigger damsel free roaming

There was some aggression from the smaller yellowtail damsel when the clownfish was first introduced. I placed him in the acclamation box for 36 hours and now there seems to be no aggression today. Still watching closely though. Both eating and ignoring eachother for the main part. The peppermint shrimp has wiped out all aiptasia and is doing well.really Active during feeding times.

Current stocking :

1 blue legged hermit ( I've had for 2+ years now )

1 bumblebee snail

1 nass snail

1 peppermint shrimp

1 yellowtail damsel

1 common clownfish


Maybe plan on adding a watchman goby or Royal gramma in the future
