165W ebay led for a 50 gallon?

I'm just wondering if people think this will be powerful enough for a reef. The dimensions are 36/18/18. I was thinking about getting 2 for a 48" tank (55g long) - think 1 would be sufficient for a 36"?

I've been looking at 165W LEDs from eBay for my 120. I'm getting two fixtures soon.
I think one might be ok on a 36" tank, especially only being 18" deep. But you will get excessive shadowing on the sides and you may not be able to keep corals there.
I have no experience with LEDs, this is just me speculating.

Get two! I had 1 on a 40b frag tank which is 36" long. I noticed frags were bleaching in the center and browning on the edges. I put two and things have been great.

I would get 2. I have one of these fixtures over a 20g high frag tank, as well as 2 more on my display. My tank is 48x37x27 so aside from the 2 of these fixtures I also have 2 photon32's.

I have 2 more of these fixtures on my qt which is a 72g bow front, So yes I have a bunch of them. All those and I have yet to experience any problems whatsoever. Just be careful about the intensity and ramping it up too fast. I usually keep the blue channel at double whatever the white channel is on. I really would recommend starting out no higher the 25 on white channel and 50 on blue channel. At least a week between changes and no more than 5% at a time. Thats worked well for me, others might say different.

Have you considered an old school 175 watt MH and T5?.

LEDs are supposed to be more efficient than MH

I run two 165w ebay less on my 48x24x16. They cover the tank pretty well. They came with 90 degree optics so there is a little shadow in the center. I'll probably just buy some 120 optics to fix the shadow. I think one with 120 degree optics will cover your tank just fine.

Lol I was thinking the same thing.....I had two 165 TaoTronics over my 60 gallon tank and had to turn them down to about 50%. If there is bad shadowing on the edges, maybe they need to be raised up?
