I’m looking to upgrade from my 32G AIO. I posted in my local reef group and got a bunch of people saying they have 90 gallon tanks. These are 48” wide and 18” deep. I really think I want I want a 24” but don’t know if I’m over thinking it.

What’s y’all’s experience with 18” vs 24” and why do you prefer one over the other?

It is nice of you can reach the bottom with your hand without using a tool. 24" is too deep for me.

standard 90 is 48" l, 18" front to back, 24" tall

A 120g will give you 48" l x 24 "x 24"

Yep, this is what I’m really looking for. I just had 3 or 4 people say they had the 90’s with the 18” front to back and they aren’t asking for a lot of them so was curious what everyone’s opinion was…. Seems pretty unanimous that 24” width is better.

Haven’t seen anyone make the case that the 18” width is better.

3 to 4 people have 90s available because they realize they want a tank what have more than 18” width.

Go with a 120, that is 48x24x24 instead. It will fit the same space as a 90 in your house, and give you more room to aquascape. The extra 6" space makes a huge difference when scaping the tank.

The people selling the 90's are doing so because they realized the 120 is a much better option.

It’s subjective

For me 24” or less depth (front to back) starts to appear “two dimensional”

For my taste and “eye perception”
I’ll never go under 30” depth (again front to back)
But everyone perceives things differently
